Optos Optomap Imaging System

Medical Eye Center made the first non-military U.S. purchase of an Optos Optomap®. Two separate scanning lasers take a painless picture of the back of the eye that your doctor uses to more accurately assess your overall eye health. These images are stored and compared from visit to visit, allowing changes to be monitored. And there is often no need to dilate your eyes, making your visit and drive home more comfortable. There is a nominal out-of-pocket fee for this technology, which is not recognized by insurance companies and Medicare due to its newness and expense.

The Optomap retinal image allows early detection of most problems before they can harm or even destroy your vision by allowing your doctor an unprecedented view of your retina (back of the eye).

Benefits of Optomap:

  • Allows your doctor to diagnose many medical disorders including macular degeneration, high blood pressure, diabetes, retinal holes and detachments.
  • Eliminates the need to dilate your eyes during most routine exams.
  • The Optomap retinal image gives your eye doctor a much larger view than conventional eye exam equipment.
  • It is painless, quick and thorough – it documents up to 95% of your retina in 1⁄4 second.
  • It provides permanent digital images of your retinas and can be referred to in the future, allowing your doctor to monitor changes in your health.
