Standard Implants
A standard intraocular lens (IOL) is a lens implanted inside the eye when a cataract has been removed, or during Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) for the correction of extreme nearsightedness or farsightedness. In effect, the lens becomes an internal contact lens rather than a contact lens on the surface of the eye and replaces the natural lens behind the iris of the eye.
