Early Signs of Glaucoma

Glaucoma early signsGlaucoma is a serious condition for which there is no cure, making it very important to catch early to prevent progression of the disease.  If left untreated, glaucoma will eventually cause blindness.

Symptoms can be unnoticeable early on.  Here are some early signs of glaucoma, according to the experts at Medical Eye Center in Medford:

Problems with light

People with some types of glaucoma may see rainbow-colored halos around lights and other bright objects.

Pain

People with glaucoma can experience intense eye and head pain.

Other Symptoms

  • Patchy blind spots in your side (peripheral) or central vision, frequently in both eyes
  • Tunnel vision in the advanced stages
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Blurred vision
  • Halos around lights
  • Eye redness

Even with treatment, about 15 percent of people with glaucoma become blind in at least one eye within 20 years.  Regular exams are crucial.  Please contact our office to schedule your eye exam.
