Dr. Matt Oliva in the News

Dr. Matt Oliva, one of the LASIK surgeons at Medical Eye Center, is also on the board of the Himalayan Cataract Project, a non-profit organization that works to eradicate preventable and curable blindness in the developing world.  Dr. Oliva was recently featured on an NPR All Things Considered broadcast, and also interviewed live on the Jefferson Exchange radio show to discuss his work with Himalayan Cataract Project and Medical Eye Center.

Did you know that for every for every LASIK surgery performed, your surgeon will personally sponsor one sight-restoring cataract surgery in Nepal, Ghana, or Ethiopia, through the Himalayan Cataract Project?

Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide, accounting for more than 18 million needlessly blind. While most global health challenges cannot be easily cured, cataract blindness is a striking exception. Cataract blindness can be cured “overnight” with a 10 minute procedure, for as little as $25 per eye. This is why the World Bank has called cataract surgery “one of the most cost-effective public health interventions available.”

Partner with Medical Eye Center to give sight to the blind. When you do, you’ll not only be giving sight, you’ll be giving life.
