Giving Back to the Medford Food Project

In support of the Medford Food Project this March, Medical Eye Center participated in an external promotion and internal employee contest.

Medford Food Project is an organization that collects and distributes food to local food banks. Instead of asking for one-time contributions of food, the Medford Food Project volunteers enlist their neighbors to become long-term food donors.  Last year they distributed over 170,000 pounds of food to 15 Medford-area food banks.

For the month of March, whenever a patient donated 3 non-perishable items, they received $50 off a complete pair of glasses.  Internally, we divided our doctors and staff into different teams, and the teams competed to see who could collect the most items to donate to Medford Food Project.  The winning team was treated to a special lunch party.  We allowed patients, family, and friends to donate on behalf of a team.

On March 21 we were visited by John Javna, founder and executive director of the Medford Food Project, and he talked to us about the organization and how we’re helping our community. View our Live Facebook video interview with John here https://rebrand.ly/MEC_MedfordFoodProject and visit www.medfordfoodproject.com to see how you can contribute to this grassroots, volunteer-run organization.
