Poorav Patel, MD

General Ophthalmology and Anterior Segment Surgeon

Dr. Poorav Patel is a board-certified ophthalmologist whose broad area of focus includes glaucoma, medical retinal conditions, clinical research, cataracts and general ophthalmology. A Southern Oregon native, Dr. Patel completed his undergraduate degree at University of California, San Diego before earning a Master of Health Science in Genetic Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He then returned to Oregon and finished his medical degree at Oregon Health & Science University.

Dr. Patel completed his residency at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) in San Francisco, California, and served as Chief Resident at CPMC and at Highland Hospital in Oakland, California. During his time, he traveled to the world-renowned Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai, India to learn how to perform surgery in high volume settings.

Dr. Patel is passionate about community outreach, and previously served as the director of Community OutReach Effort (CORE) in San Diego. He has also volunteered with Students Teaching and Reaching Students (STARS) in Baltimore to teach inner-city students about public health and epidemiology, and has worked with the Casey Eye Van in Portland, Oregon to provide free eye screenings for the uninsured.

Dr. Patel previously served on the board of directors at Oregon Health & Science University

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, visiting the majestic Southern Oregon coast, and traveling.
