Medical Eye Center is looking to add a Dispensing Optician to the team who’s ready to dive in and make an immediate impact in our organization.  

Dispensing Opticians work with a diverse team of optical staff, clinical staff, and eye care providers, to ensure that patients’ corrective eyewear needs are met and expectations are exceeded. A person in this role thrives on delighting patients by helping them select eyewear that will enhance their lifestyle by providing optimal vision and styling that will boost their confidence. 

The ideal candidate has experience in a retail or optical environment and boasts a successful record of producing exceptional sales results without compromising integrity. The Optical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting our optical team and our patients. This employee keeps operations efficient by keeping the retail environment tidy and organized, maintaining pristine inventory management, supporting the optician team in timely completion of administrative tasks, and delivers excellent customer service to our patients. This employee will assist with verifying quality and order accuracy for incoming orders, dispensing orders and minor adjustments.

The ideal candidate is energetic, highly organized, demonstrates extreme attention to detail, and thrives on supporting teammates to succeed!
A person in this role will assess the inventory of eyeglass frames, place orders with vendors, receive merchandise into our practice management database, create profiles for new merchandise, regularly clean and organize our product displays, assist with optical reception duties, and periodically aid the Optical Manager in conducting a quarterly inventory reconciliation.

This position is 24-30 hours per week.

Pay is $16-$20/hour with opportunities for advancement and more hours. Many of our previous Optical Assistants have moved on to become Opticians – this position is a great way to get exposure and on-the-job training.

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for assessing inventory of eyeglass frames, placing orders with vendors, receiving merchandise into practice, management database, creating profiles for new merchandise, regularly cleaning and organizing our product displays, assisting with optical reception duties, and aid in conducting a quarterly inventory reconciliation.

MAIN JOB DUTIES:

  • Processes and price incoming frame shipments from manufacturers
  • Assists in wholesale purchasing of frames and other products for resale to patients
  • Sets up new merchandise into Nextech
  • Performs eyeglass frame adjustments and repairs
  • Verifies lens prescriptions and check for accuracy when we receive them from the lab
  • Process mail deliveries and route frames and other merchandise to the proper destination
  • Assists in the return of authorized frames to manufacturers and prepare credit forms
  • Design, arrange and maintain product displays
  • Organizes and maintain frame display area throughout the workday
  • Monitors inventory levels
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients staff, managers, and doctors
  • Outstanding accuracy and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of proper sales techniques
  • Basic computer literacy with experience using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook a plus
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in reception, clerical, or customer service fields

Our Patient Counselors are the experience guides of MEC, helping patients navigate through every step of the process from consultation to post-operative care with compassion, enthusiasm, and patience. Patient Counselors are steeped in MEC’s foundational tenets of integrity, commitment, awareness, relationships, and empathy. These friendly and knowledgeable liaisons help educate patients on various surgical options, working to understand each patient’s unique goals and reservations, and helping to overcome any barriers holding them back from a better quality of life.

The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, has outstanding communication skills, with prior experience in sales, and is passionate about delivering incredible customer service. A person in this role will work directly in patient care. They will interview patients about their goals and concerns, provide education about various procedures (LASIK, Premium Cataract Surgery, Collagen Crosslinking, LipiFlow, etc), assist with financial arrangements, and schedule procedures and pre/post-operative care. Patient Counselors also act as a communication point person for individuals considering a procedure or who have recently had one and have questions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Answer phone inquiries in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Utilize phone scripts.
  • Conduct patient consultations via Zoom or in-office with emphasis on converting patients to surgery.
  • Make confirmation and reminder calls.
  • Follow-up calls from patient consultations and seminar leads.
  • Assist and attend elective surgery seminars and events.
  • Track personal conversion rates monthly.
  • Interact with patients/family day of the procedure.

Interact with referring and co-managing doctor’s offices.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Well organized and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time quickly and accurately.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required to work closely and effectively with doctors, clinic staff and understanding patient needs.

Working alongside our surgeons and collaborating with our care team, our LPNs ensure that each patient feels seen, heard, and genuinely cared for throughout their surgical journey. Our LPNs keep our operations running smoothly and care for our patients with medical expertise and compassionate, human connection.

The ideal candidate is organized, attentive to details, has outstanding communication skills, and above all, is compassionate. This person will work directly with patients in pre and post-operative settings as well as intra-operative care and circulating in the operating room. He/she will provide planned and highly skilled nursing care for the immediate pre-operative and post-operative patients. Continuous patient surveillance allows for early recognition of medical or surgical complications which may arise in any patient.

Although we prefer previous general medical-surgical nursing experience or ICU/ER experience, along with post-anesthesia recovery experience, we are willing to train a less experienced LPN with the skills and attributes that we value.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed to practice in the State of Oregon. BLS and ACLS certified.

Pay: $23.00 – $30.00 per hour

Our special testing technicians are the information collectors who support our mission to deliver exceptional eye care.  These individuals guide patients during testing, help to ease the anxiety that many patients experience, while simultaneously paying close attention to the details of the test they are completing for our doctors. 

The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, communicates well, and has great attention to detail. A person in this role will work directly in patient care-assisting patients with positioning, collecting medical information, preparing, sanitizing and calibrating equipment, and completing accurate measurements and special testing.

The starting wage for special testing technicians is $15.00/hour.

Over time, many special testing technicians advance to become certified ophthalmic technicians or lead technicians with wages ranging up to $26.00/hour.

  • Schedules procedures and post-operative appointments  for multiple surgeons.
  • Coordinates with on-site Laser and Surgical Center as well as outside surgery centers and referring doctors’ offices  
  • Works closely with other offices to obtain health clearances for the patient
  • Assist with follow-up “to do’s” related to lab results or other important follow-ups.
  • Assists with postoperative follow up calls to check on patients
  • Key “go to” person for the team/assists with troubleshooting

Medical Eye Center is seeking BE/BC fellowship-trained vitreoretinal physician and surgeon to a full time, partnership track position. The new associate will join our current vitreoretinal specialist in our busy multi-specialty practice. Mid-career and fellows welcome to apply.

The position is based in Medford, OR, with limited travel to our satellite office in Grants Pass, which is 35 miles away.

Medical Eye Center is a physician-owned and operated full-service ophthalmology practice founded in 1911 and has steadily grown to include 7 MDs, 4 ODs, and 1 PA. Other specialties include cornea and refractive, glaucoma, and oculoplastics. Ancillary services include an optical department and a medical spa that supports the oculoplastics program. The practice owns a 4 OR ASC onsite in Medford, along with 1 other local surgeon. The revenue profile is well balanced, with a large Medicare and insured population and many out-of-pocket services such as LASIK, custom IOLs, oculoplastic and spa services, and optical shop.

Our practice has state-of-the-art facilities and equipment as well as a supportive staff of 150 people. Vitreoretinal surgeries are performed in our ASC as well as a local hospital surgical suite.
